The Technical Service Advisor position is necessary to provide customer and business technical support in order to achieve sales, ROCE and growth targets established by its line of business. The Technical Service Advisor demonstrates a high proficiency in field of work, as well as high self-starting abilities and self-directed assignments, requiring a minimum of management supervision.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain image as a technology leader through market development, product development and highly responsive technical service, including frequent telephone and personal contact with customers and other industry representatives; recognized by customers and the general industry as an expert and reliable consultant in field of coverage.
  • Minimize customer quality and performance complaints and their severity to maximize profitability and ensure complete customer satisfaction. Proactively identifies and corrects causes of complaints.
  • To maximize profitability, assist Sales and Manufacturing by deciding when and where product, which does not meet all the specifications, can be shipped. Negotiate waivers from customers and provide troubleshooting guidelines as necessary.
  • Direct and/or lead multifunctional teams and projects for continued development of new and improved automotive products through collaboration with Sales and Marketing, the Applications Laboratory, Research groups, Analytical Testing Laboratories, Manufacturing and European organization. Solicit and direct joint development programs with key customers.
  • Prepare and provide written correspondence, technical literature, datasheets, processing and troubleshooting guides to promote company and facilitate meeting the Business Plan and ensure market leadership.
  • Ensure effective communication within company with timely reporting, sales training, acting as Manager of Technical Service in the Manager’s absence and exchanging information with colleagues at other facilities.
  • Display high knowledge and proficiency in field of coverage regarding materials processing, material and applications properties and limitations, competitive products and activities, customer needs and business plans and procedures; recognized as a valuable resource for others within the organization to come to with questions.
  • Demonstrate safety awareness by completing safety objectives. Practice principles of Modern Safety Management to identify and mitigate loss while visiting customers.  Adhere to all corporate policies and Research Center loss control programs.
  • Demonstrate expertise in their market/application area, develop new automotive markets and perform in-depth market analysis to support product development efforts.
  • Responsible for providing technical service for company’s largest and most strategic customers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. or higher degree, preferably in Polymer Science, Chemistry or Engineering.
  • Five years of experience in technical aspects of the plastics and automotive industry.
  • Technical Service or Product Development experience in automotive compounds and working with customers.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, effective communications skills, information management skills.
  • A willingness/ability to travel 20-30% of the time is a must.
