Job Summary & Responsibilities:
The Special Investments team provides the tools and platforms necessary for supporting the Investment Management Division alternative investments businesses. The role available focuses primarily on designing and developing software for the entire life cycle of an alternative investment order, from order capture to settlement. Responsibilities include understanding business requirements and drivers for automation needs for each project and designing and building systems that meet those objectives. Work with peers within the Special Investments technology team located in NY and SLC on projects involving alternative investment product areas. Provide production support for business critical functions for IMD around alternative investment trade booking and processing for the firm’s clients. Interact with global users across multiple business functions including Operations, Sales, Compliance and Controllers.
Specifically looking for an individual to be involved with the following:
- A self-motivated candidate who is eager to work in a fast-paced environment in support of this business critical area within IMD.
- Participate in all areas of the development life cycle (requirements, design, development, testing, production release).
- Strong analytic and communication skills to work closely with a global user base; interact with global users across multiple business functions within IMD to further understand the business and its requirements.
- Project leadership and mentoring of junior members of the team.
- Experience with requirements analysis and project planning / implementation.
- Coordinates technical aspects of work for the successful completion of a project.
- Production support of new and existing applications.
- Minimum 5 years experience
- Experience working with internal clients and technical teams, gathering requirements, and hands-on software development.
- Experience with line management and supporting production environments.
- Strong problem solving / analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
- Strong core Java, J2EE experience
- Strong relational DBMS experience (Sybase a plus) including performance tuning.
- Strong skills in scripting languages using Perl, Shell.
- Unix Operating System experience.
- Task management experience, including planning and driving development
- Experience working with complex data models and building complex queries.
- Experience with trading/order management systems a plus.
- Understanding of business knowledge in alternative investments (hedge funds, private equity).
- Strong sense of ownership, communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
